Mappedin, an indoor mapping technology company, has raised $24.5 million in a Series B round led by Edison Partners, with participation from Betatron Venture Group.
The funding will support the company’s expansion from mapping individual buildings to enabling large-scale, city-wide indoor mapping infrastructure, addressing a gap in digital spatial data.
What The Company Does
Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Kitchener-Waterloo, Mappedin develops software that transforms indoor spaces into dynamic, interactive digital maps. Using artificial intelligence and LiDAR technology, the platform converts floor plans and spatial data into 3D visualizations that support navigation, operational management, analytics, and safety.
The company’s technology is designed for complex indoor environments such as airports, stadiums, shopping centers, and large commercial properties. These digital maps can be integrated into applications for wayfinding, facility management, and emergency response systems.
Mappedin has mapped more than 10 billion square feet of indoor space across 86 countries and supports hundreds of millions of users annually. Its solutions are already deployed in large-scale venues, including transportation hubs and major event locations.
Market Context / Industry Background
While outdoor mapping has reached a high level of maturity, indoor mapping remains significantly underdeveloped. The complexity of indoor environments, combined with the lack of standardized spatial data, has limited large-scale digitization efforts.
At the same time, demand for indoor spatial intelligence is increasing. Industries such as commercial real estate, transportation, and public safety are seeking tools that improve navigation, optimize operations, and enhance emergency preparedness.
Mappedin is positioned within this emerging market, where digital infrastructure for indoor environments is still in early stages. The company estimates that less than one percent of global indoor space has been digitally mapped, indicating substantial room for growth. As adoption expands, the ability to integrate indoor and outdoor mapping systems may become increasingly relevant for creating seamless location-based services across different environments. This integration could also support more advanced analytics and data-driven decision-making processes, further enhancing operational visibility and long-term strategic planning capabilities.
Founder / Investor Commentary
Chief Executive Officer Hongwei Liu described the company’s long-term vision as building a digital operating system for indoor environments. He noted that while Mappedin’s technology already reaches a significant portion of users in North America through embedded systems, broader market awareness remains limited.
Liu emphasized that the company has already mapped billions of square feet globally and supports high-traffic locations, but sees significant opportunity ahead given the limited digitization of indoor spaces.
From the investor perspective, Ryan Ziegler highlighted Mappedin’s positioning within the market, noting that the company has the potential to become a foundational layer for digital experiences, operational intelligence, and safety systems across built environments.
Growth Plans / Use Of Funds
The Series B funding will be used to expand Mappedin’s capabilities beyond individual buildings toward city-scale indoor mapping. The company plans to enhance its platform to support broader deployment across urban environments, including integration with public infrastructure and safety systems.
Additionally, the capital will be used to increase accessibility of its technology for first responders, safety organizations, and operators of large public venues. This includes improving real-time data capabilities and expanding partnerships across sectors such as transportation and commercial real estate.
Mappedin currently serves more than 500 customers, generates eight-figure annual revenue, and reports strong year-over-year growth. The company expects to reach profitability within the near term as it scales its operations.
