Neuramancer AI Solutions GmbH, a German startup focused on detecting manipulated digital media, has secured €1.7 million in pre-seed funding to expand its deepfake detection platform.

The round was led by Vanagon Ventures, with participation from Bayern Kapital, ZOHO.VC, Lightfield Equity, and several additional venture capital firms and angel investors. The funding will support product development, team expansion, and the company’s first commercial deployments, particularly within the insurance sector.

What The Company Does

Neuramancer develops software designed to identify manipulated images and videos created using generative AI technologies.

The company’s platform analyzes media files to detect statistical inconsistencies in visual noise patterns. Instead of focusing primarily on visible content or semantic analysis, the system examines structural characteristics within image and video data that may reveal signs of digital manipulation.

According to the company, this approach allows the platform to identify alterations that may not be detectable through traditional AI-based content analysis methods.

In addition to detecting manipulated media, the platform generates forensic reports that highlight specific areas of alteration and provide contextual information about how the content may have been modified. These reports are intended to support investigations related to fraud and digital evidence verification.

Market Context / Industry Background

The rapid growth of generative AI technologies has increased the availability of tools capable of producing highly realistic synthetic images, videos, and audio.

While these technologies have enabled new creative and commercial applications, they have also introduced risks related to misinformation, fraud, and identity manipulation.

Industries such as insurance, financial services, and media verification have become increasingly concerned about the potential misuse of AI-generated content. Fraudulent claims supported by manipulated images or videos represent a growing challenge for insurers.

Industry organizations estimate that insurance fraud already results in billions of euros in annual losses, and the availability of AI tools capable of generating convincing digital content may further complicate fraud detection efforts.

As a result, there is growing interest in technologies that can reliably identify synthetic media and provide transparent evidence supporting their findings.

Founder / Investor Commentary

Neuramancer co-founder Anika Gruner said the company aims to develop detection systems that provide transparent and scientifically grounded analysis of manipulated media.

“While many providers rely on intransparent black-box models, we pursue a scientifically grounded, fully transparent approach,” Gruner said.

She added that the company believes explainable AI technologies will become increasingly important as organizations seek tools capable of verifying digital content.

“European, explainable AI will become a strategic competitive advantage for companies that need to protect themselves against synthetic manipulation,” she said.

The company’s founding team is also supported by advisors and business angels with experience across financial services, large technology companies, and digital platform businesses.

Growth Plans / Use Of Funds

Neuramancer plans to use the pre-seed funding to expand its engineering and research teams while further developing its detection platform.

The company intends to focus initially on commercial applications within the insurance industry, where digital fraud detection has become a growing priority.

Additional investment will be directed toward improving the scalability of the platform and expanding its capabilities for analyzing both images and video content.

Neuramancer also plans to broaden its market reach as demand grows for tools capable of verifying digital media authenticity.
