Montréal-based robotics company Mecademic has raised $21 million in a strategic funding round to expand internationally while advancing its ultra-compact industrial robot technology.

The round was led by Investissement Québec, with participation from Export Development Canada and the Business Development Bank of Canada.

Expanding Global Footprint From Montréal

The fresh capital will support the expansion of Mecademic’s headquarters in Montréal and accelerate hiring across key markets, including the United States, Europe, and Asia.

According to President and CEO Philippe Beaulieu, the funding marks a new phase of growth as the company strengthens its global presence and scales operations to meet increasing demand.

Miniaturized Precision For Advanced Manufacturing

Founded in 2013 by Jonathan Coulombe, Philippe Jacome, Éric Boutet, and Ilian Bonev, the startup specializes in highly compact and precise industrial robots designed for applications in component manufacturing, electronics, medical devices, and biopharmaceutical production.

The company’s robotic systems are engineered to operate in confined environments where traditional industrial robots cannot fit, enabling automation in space-constrained manufacturing and laboratory settings.

Mecademic counts organizations such as SpaceX, NASA, and Meta among its customers, underscoring its positioning in high-performance and precision-driven industries.

Strengthening Leadership And Operational Capacity

The funding follows what the company describes as a period of strong operational performance and growth.

The company recently reinforced its leadership team with the appointment of Dominique Jodoin as Chairman of the Board. Jodoin brings experience from senior roles at Ericsson and board positions at organizations including Desjardins.

In addition, David Massé, formerly CFO of WatchMojo, joined Mecademic as Chief Financial Officer in October, further strengthening the company’s financial leadership as it prepares for international expansion.
