Swedish AI startup Berget AI has secured €2.1M in funding as demand grows for AI systems that keep sensitive data under European control amid tighter regulation and rising geopolitical risk.
The round was led by Luminar Ventures, with participation from Wellstreet and Norrsken Evolve.
Building AI on sovereign infrastructure
Founded by digital entrepreneur Christian Landgren and former BCG AI specialist Andreas Lundmark, Berget AI is developing a full-stack AI platform that allows organisations to build and run AI applications using open language models on infrastructure located in Sweden.
The approach ensures that sensitive data remains within national borders and under European jurisdiction, offering an alternative to US hyperscalers and complex on-premise deployments.

A turnkey platform for developers
Berget AI targets development teams that want to move quickly without managing infrastructure themselves. Its platform combines ease of use with local data residency, open technology, and sustainable operations, enabling organisations to retain technical control without sacrificing speed.
The company positions its offering as a middle ground between global cloud providers and self-hosted solutions that require significant internal resources.
Regulation and sovereignty driving demand
With the EU AI Act introducing stricter requirements around transparency, traceability, and data governance, public sector organisations and regulated industries are increasingly prioritising AI solutions that operate fully within EU jurisdiction.
According to the founders, many organisations are now actively avoiding global cloud platforms for sensitive workloads and are seeking practical, compliant alternatives.
Berget AI launched its first service shortly before summer 2025 and reports strong inbound interest, despite not actively pursuing sales to date.
Accelerating product development
The new funding will allow Berget AI to accelerate go-to-market efforts and expand its product offering. Several additional services are currently in development, aimed at supporting organisations that require local control over both data and AI workflows.
