Swiss early-stage venture capital firm Constructor Capital has closed its first fund at €92.8M ($110M), targeting Seed and Series A startups across DeepTech, software, and EdTech.
The fund is already deploying capital and will back founders translating scientific research and software innovation into globally scalable companies.
Backing science-first companies from lab to market
Constructor Capital is supported by private investors including technology entrepreneurs, family offices, investment bankers, and investment vehicles. The fund is built to close the gap between academic breakthroughs and venture capital, bringing more scientific innovation from research environments into commercial markets.
Managing Partner Matthias Winter said the firm aims to provide both academic depth and practical execution support for teams moving from lab to market.
Built within the Constructor Group ecosystem
Constructor Capital was founded by Serg Bell, a physicist, computer scientist, investor, and serial tech entrepreneur who previously built and scaled businesses including Acronis, Parallels, and Solomon Software.
The fund operates as the venture engine of the Constructor Group, a global ecosystem spanning Constructor University (Germany’s largest private STEM-focused university), Constructor Start (an equity-free accelerator), and Constructor Tech (an applied research and innovation platform). Portfolio companies gain access to talent, applied research infrastructure, testing environments, and long-term commercial partners.
Operator-led team with deep domain expertise
Constructor Capital is led by Matthias Winter and a team of operators-turned-investors. The general partner group includes Marie Lepske (DeepTech and quantum), Alex Fine (software and go-to-market), Laurent Dedenis (EdTech), and Oleg Melnikov (product and software systems).
The firm’s science-first sourcing and diligence is supported by a network of more than 50 universities including Harvard, MIT, Oxford, Cambridge, ETH Zurich, and NUS, alongside hundreds of researchers.
Investment strategy and focus areas
Constructor Capital plans to lead and co-lead Seed and Series A rounds, with initial investments ranging from €840k to €8.4M and select investments up to €12.6M, supported by dedicated follow-on capital. The firm invests globally, focusing on Europe, the US, the UAE, and Singapore.
In DeepTech, the fund targets new computing architectures such as quantum and photonic systems, prioritising optimisation, advanced simulation, and energy-efficient computing. Its software thesis focuses on AI-native enterprise platforms, while its EdTech focus prioritises AI-driven learning solutions that personalise education and empower educators.
Early portfolio and outlook
Constructor Capital has invested in companies including QuEra Computing, which builds neutral-atom quantum computers, and Lumai, which develops 3D optical computing architectures designed to reduce the cost and energy use of AI inference. The wider portfolio also includes AI infrastructure provider GCore, ERP platform Osome, and augmented reality company VitreaLab.
