HoloSolis, the French manufacturer of low-carbon photovoltaic cells and modules, has raised over €220 million in combined public and private funding to build one of Europe’s largest solar gigafactories in Sarreguemines–Hambach.

The round includes new investors Calés Technologie and Forming, alongside long-standing backers InnoEnergy, TSE, Groupe IDEC, Armor Group, and Heraeus.

Bertrand Lecacheux, CEO of HoloSolis, said:
“HoloSolis already had strong partners—InnoEnergy, Armor Group, IDEC, TSE, and Heraeus. I am very proud new partners are joining us. Their expertise will help us build Europe’s largest TOPCon cell and module gigafactory. With more than 20 GW of customer letters of intent already in hand, our business model is clearly resonating with the market.”

Europe’s solar manufacturing momentum

HoloSolis’ raise significantly surpasses other 2025 funding rounds in Europe’s solar and energy-transition sectors. Recent examples include:

  • Solarock (France) – €7M for solar self-consumption networks
  • Dracula Technologies (France) – €30M Series A extension for ambient-light modules
  • feld.energy (Germany) – €10M+ for agrivoltaics
  • Co-Power (Germany) – €6.4M for industrial PV and storage
  • Sunly (Estonia) – ~€85M for large-scale solar parks in Latvia

Together, these deals total roughly €108 million—less than half of HoloSolis’ raise, highlighting the substantially larger capital required to scale PV manufacturing in Europe.

Karine Vernier, CEO of InnoEnergy France, noted:
“HoloSolis embodies the ambition we’ve had from the beginning: a strong and sovereign European solar industry. Securing more than €200 million is a decisive milestone and a point of immense pride for InnoEnergy.”

Reshoring solar production to Europe

Founded in 2022, HoloSolis aims to rebuild Europe’s photovoltaic manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependence on imports. The upcoming gigafactory is designed to produce high-efficiency TOPCon cells and modules with a 5 GW annual capacity—enough to power 1 million European homes by 2030.

The initiative supports the EU’s Net-Zero Industry Act target of sourcing 40% of solar panels from local production.

Jean-Paul Calès, President of Calés Technologies, said:
“Investing in HoloSolis affirms our belief that the energy transition must be backed by a high-performing, innovative and responsible French industry. We are proud to contribute to a sustainable and sovereign economy.”

The project is expected to create 2,000 direct jobs, with operations slated to begin in 2026.

Building a fully ‘Made in Europe’ solar ecosystem

Funding will support:

  • Factory design and construction
  • Deployment of TOPCon cell and module technologies
  • Supply chain development
  • Recruitment and workforce training
  • Regional industrial partnerships

Eric Lauer, Strategic Development Manager at Forming AG, said:
“Reindustrializing France is at the heart of our mission. Beyond the investment, we are bringing expertise in panel-structure integration to boost performance.”

Franck Leroy, President of France’s Grand Est Region, added:
“This is a decisive step forward. With more than €200 million secured and strengthened partnerships, HoloSolis is entering its operational phase for 2026. This project is vital for Europe’s energy sovereignty and regional reindustrialization.”
