Spanish mobility startup TRIBBU (formerly Hoop Carpool) has raised over €2 million to transform everyday commuting in Spain through shared, low-emission travel.

The round was led by Iberdrola and Grupo Ruiz, who each invested €1 million, with legal advisory from Eleva Legal.

Turning carpooling into a climate-positive habit

Founded in 2019 by a team of young entrepreneurs from Madrid, TRIBBU connects drivers and passengers who share similar routes — reducing traffic, emissions, and commuting costs. The platform has already facilitated more than 500,000 shared trips and serves over 100 organisations, including Mercedes-Benz, Schneider Electric, Iberostar, and several major universities.

The latest funding comes as TRIBBU integrates Energy Savings Certificates (CAEs) directly into its platform — enabling drivers to earn €1 per passenger per trip, making carpooling not just sustainable but financially rewarding.

“We’re thrilled to have the backing of Iberdrola and Grupo Ruiz, who share our vision for smart, sustainable mobility,” said Paloma Martín, CEO and Co-founder of TRIBBU. “Our goal is to make commuting as comfortable as driving your own car and as affordable as public transport — using every empty seat as an opportunity to connect people and reduce emissions.”

Backing Europe’s shared mobility transition

TRIBBU’s raise reflects a growing European trend in shared and low-carbon mobility, as startups across the continent race to redefine how people move through cities.

Recent funding rounds, such as Wayla’s €1M vanpooling platform in Milan, Maxi Mobility’s €1.2M to electrify taxi fleets, and Stockholm-based Standab’s €3.6M for micromobility charging, highlight a wider shift toward collaborative transport solutions.

What makes TRIBBU unique is its integration of Energy Savings Certificates (CAEs) — directly linking financial incentives with environmental impact.

“Every day, cities lose time and energy to traffic jams caused by cars driving half-empty,” said Andrés Ruiz, CEO of Grupo Ruiz. “TRIBBU gives us a way to solve that — turning wasted capacity into shared journeys that benefit everyone.”

Scaling across Spain and Latin America

With this new funding, the startup plans to expand its user base across Spain, enhance its AI-powered app and CAE certification system, and reach underserved commuter groups such as university students and those living on the outskirts of major cities.

Beyond Spain, TRIBBU is already active in Portugal, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Panama, and Guatemala, and is eyeing further growth in Latin America, where public transport infrastructure gaps make shared mobility particularly impactful.

“Supporting startups like TRIBBU aligns perfectly with Iberdrola’s mission to accelerate decarbonisation and electrification,” said Óscar Cantalejo, Head of Perseo at Iberdrola. “We’re proud to back innovators building solutions that move us toward a cleaner and more connected economy.”
