Metal, a New York–based startup bringing AI to private market investing, has raised $5M in seed funding led by Base10 Partners.
The round will accelerate the company’s vision of creating the first AI operating system for private markets—a platform that transforms fragmented firm knowledge into a dynamic, living intelligence system for investors.
Solving private markets’ data problem
Private market investors face a chronic challenge: data scattered across CRMs, file repositories, expert networks, third-party providers, and research platforms. This fragmentation slows decision-making and prevents firms from capturing the long-term institutional knowledge that drives investment outcomes.
“Most tools focus on efficiency, but they don’t generate real insight,” said the Metal team. “We’re building the infrastructure that institutionalizes a fund’s unique philosophy and decision patterns, creating durable competitive advantage.”
Early traction with top funds
Metal’s platform has already delivered strong results:
- 2–3x increase in deal flow without adding headcount
- 80% reduction in preparation time for sourcing activities
- Transformation of years of firm history into an actionable institutional memory
Clients include Berkshire Partners, Clearlake Capital, and Blue Wolf Capital.
What’s next
With the fresh funding, Metal will expand its team and broaden its capabilities—supporting live deal processes, surfacing insights from past transactions, and building dashboards that reveal long-term sector trends.
“AI in private markets isn’t just about tools,” the team added. “The firms that win the next decade will run on AI as an operating system.”
