Slow Ventures has made the first investment from its $60 million Creator Fund, backing woodworking content creator Jonathan Katz-Moses with $2 million.
The Santa Barbara-based entrepreneur has built a following of 600,000 subscribers and nearly 75 million video views on YouTube, alongside a growing line of woodworking tools and accessories.
From creator to founder
Katz-Moses entered woodworking in 2010 after a life-changing assault, later documenting his craft online. Over the years, he transformed his content into a business, selling branded tools while managing the challenges of inventory, operations, and growth.
Slow Ventures partner Billy Parks said Katz-Moses exemplifies the fund’s thesis: creators who think like entrepreneurs and build sustainable, off-platform businesses.
“We look for creators with deep expertise, engaged communities, and authority in their craft — traits that make for durable, scalable businesses,” Parks explained.
Backing business expansion
The funding will support:
- Product development and patent filings
- Expansion of the woodworking tool line
- Broader educational content production across platforms, with a primary focus on YouTube
Katz-Moses has already hired product developers and is exploring new product lines since the investment.
Investing in the creator economy
Launched in February 2025, Slow’s Creator Fund received 700+ applications. It aims to partner with creators early to provide capital and strategic guidance at critical growth stages.
“This is about building a brand that lasts,” Katz-Moses said. “The tools we’re creating are designed to help woodworkers at every level, and this investment gives us the resources to scale that vision.”
