London-based 9fin, an AI-native platform focused on global debt markets, has raised €148 million ($170 million) in a Series C funding round, reaching a valuation of €1.1 billion.
The round was led by HarbourVest, with participation from CPP Investments and existing backers including Redalpine, Highland Europe, Spark Capital, and Seedcamp. With this latest raise, the company’s total funding now exceeds €217 million ($250 million).
Building The Data Layer For Global Credit Markets
Founded in 2016 by Steven Hunter, a former banker at J.P. Morgan, and Hussam El-Sheikh, an ex-engineer at Deutsche Bank, 9fin is focused on modernising how credit market professionals access and use data.
Despite debt capital markets being the largest asset class globally—valued at around €126 trillion—the underlying technology infrastructure remains fragmented and outdated. As bonds, loans, and private credit markets increasingly overlap, the need for fast, reliable insights has become more critical than ever.
AI-Powered Insights From Unstructured Data
9fin tackles this challenge by extracting and structuring data from sources such as PDFs, emails, and data rooms—formats that traditionally require time-consuming manual analysis.
This data is then fed into AI-driven tools that enable users to assess risk, identify opportunities, and make faster decisions. By automating large parts of the research process, the platform helps financial professionals operate more efficiently and with greater accuracy.
Strong Adoption Across Financial Institutions
The platform is already used by more than 300 organisations, including banks, asset managers, law firms, and advisory firms. Notably, CPP Investments was a customer before joining the round as an investor.
9fin has also reported multiple years of strong growth, including consistent 100% annual recurring revenue expansion, high customer retention, and rapid traction in the US market.
Scaling AI And Expanding In The US
The new funding will be used to further develop 9fin’s AI capabilities, expand its proprietary data assets, and accelerate its expansion in the United States.
Co-founder and CEO Steven Hunter emphasized that AI will play a defining role in reshaping credit markets—but only when paired with high-quality, proprietary data and embedded directly into professional workflows.
